أَفَبِهَٰذَا
ٱلۡحَدِيثِ
أَنتُم
مُّدۡهِنُونَ
٨١

How can you then take this message lightly,

— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

56:82

وَتَجۡعَلُونَ

رِزۡقَكُمۡ

أَنَّكُمۡ

تُكَذِّبُونَ

٨٢

and repay ˹Allah for˺ your provisions with denial?¹

56:83

فَلَوۡلَآ

إِذَا

بَلَغَتِ

ٱلۡحُلۡقُومَ

٨٣

Why then ˹are you helpless˺ when the soul ˹of a dying person˺ reaches ˹their˺ throat,

56:84

وَأَنتُمۡ

حِينَئِذٖ

تَنظُرُونَ

٨٤

while you are looking on?

56:85

وَنَحۡنُ

أَقۡرَبُ

إِلَيۡهِ

مِنكُمۡ

وَلَٰكِن

لَّا

تُبۡصِرُونَ

٨٥

And We are nearer to such a person than you, but you cannot see.

56:86

فَلَوۡلَآ

إِن

كُنتُمۡ

غَيۡرَ

مَدِينِينَ

٨٦

Now, if you are not subject to Our Will ˹as you claim˺,

56:87

تَرۡجِعُونَهَآ

إِن

كُنتُمۡ

صَٰدِقِينَ

٨٧

bring that soul back, if what you say is true.

56:88

فَأَمَّآ

إِن

كَانَ

مِنَ

ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِينَ

٨٨

So, if the deceased is one of those brought near ˹to Us˺,

56:89

فَرَوۡحٞ

وَرَيۡحَانٞ

وَجَنَّتُ

نَعِيمٖ

٨٩

then ˹such a person will have˺ serenity, fragrance,¹ and a Garden of Bliss.

56:90

وَأَمَّآ

إِن

كَانَ

مِنۡ

أَصۡحَٰبِ

ٱلۡيَمِينِ

٩٠

And if the deceased is one of the people of the right,
